What is a Dual Language Program?

The goal of our two-language program is to teach students in both English and Spanish. We want to help students learn to speak, read, and write in two languages. We also want them to understand different cultures so they can grow up to be great citizens of the world!

The Three Main Goals

  • Speaking Two Languages (Bilingualism): The main goal is to help students speak both languages well. Knowing more than one language gives students a big advantage as they grow up. It can help them get cooler jobs and understand other people better.

  • Reading and Writing in Two Languages (Biliteracy): We want students to be able to read, write, and share ideas easily in both English and Spanish.

  • Understanding Different Cultures: Learning in two languages helps students learn about the traditions, holidays, and ways of life in Spanish-speaking countries and English-speaking areas.

What will the classroom look and sound like?

Every day has a "special language of the day." The teacher will stick to that language during lessons. Students can always use whichever language they know best to share their thoughts, but teachers will gently encourage them to try using the special language of the day!
